Problem
Current smart home systems rely on smartphones, voice commands, and dedicated controllers, often making them unintuitive and cumbersome for users
Solution
ENCOMPASS uses MR to enable natural, gesture-based interactions with smart home systems, integrating controls seamlessly into daily life.

In the future, lightweight XR devices could replace smartphones, becoming the primary gateway to the internet.
How might we build a more effective multi-disciplinary collaboration tool in order to improve the creative cooperation for remote design teams in the game industry?

Multi-affordances
The lightweight MR devices enable unlimited controlling affordances on generic everyday objects, allowing users to control their homes without the hassle of finding dedicated controllers.
Control overlays from MR devices can adapt to the user's current object, offering maximum comfort and intuitive gesture controls.
Posture-based Automation
Thanks to the tracking nature of MR devices, the system can unlock more intuitive automation by tracking and learning from users' daily habits and postures, further reducing the steps of reaching the home settings that fit the users’ needs.
Configuration & Customization
Even with the availability of lightweight MR devices, mobile phones are unlikely to be easily replaced in the near future. In our system, the user will be able to have the ability to set up the automation both through portable devices from a third-person view, and postures from a first-person view.

Invite friends as avatars into your room, synchronize media content and the environment, and enjoy movies together.
what i learned
The Encompass project taught me to envision design as a bridge between the familiar and the transformative. Anticipating a future where technology seamlessly integrates into daily life, I embraced the philosophy that true innovation enhances natural human interactions rather than imposing new behaviors. This perspective guided me to design systems that are intuitive, inclusive, and grounded in the harmony between human intent and technology.
